    Good Day

I wonder if anyone could provide any information on these little sugar tongs. There is no hallmark but the inside of one arm is engraved "H E Silver Co".

The "E" is incomplete and could be an "F" except that my internet search has called up someone else's search result on www.ancestry.it which reads as follows:

"James Walsh, emp H & E Silver Co, h 73, Sheridan". It seems this information was found in the "Bridgeport CT 1902 City Directory".

Clearly, therefore, the firm is H E Silver Co.

I am interested in any information, such as:
    - more information about that company (presumably it was in the USA).
    - the name of the pattern of the tongs.
    - whether they are likely to be Sterling. They look to be Sterling insofar as one can tell by looking.
    - information suggesting a date of manufacture.

H & E Silver Co should be Holmes and Edwards of Bridgeport, CT. Established in 1882. The design on these tongs is very 1890's and the very narrow width no doubt accounts for the very small maker's mark. These are silver plated.
