This was identified as a Bennington Pottery piece by the previous owner.

I had asked about it earlier on one of my threads about the never-ending estate auction & @Bakersgma seemed to think it was possible as the glaze looked right but I didn't have a photo of the bottom.

I ended up buying it along with the pig whiskey flask I posted about on the great finds thread. So hopefully now I can get a firm yes or no on its origins.

    It is 5 1/4" long, 2 1/8" across & 2" to the top.

It does have some damage to the coin slot & some loss of glaze on the back. :(

Thanks for any & all advice or opinions!!!:happy: :kiss::kiss:

    I wish I could say I found a firm clue, Peggy, but I haven't.

The "How to Identify Bennington Pottery" book that I have gives an emphatic No answer to the question Was all the pottery made in Bennington marked? There were 2 different firms involved - Fenton and Norton and they marked only a portion of their output - with their own names I might add.

Thanks for the additional information!!:happy:

I am well aware that this guy first of all didn't always correctly ID makers but also the many things he thought rare & the prices he put on things were not always in the realm of reality.:rolleyes::rolleyes: :p

It's kind of a distinctive shape with the ears down and legs tucked under. I almost see a dog when I look at it, but it likely is a stylized pig form. Where was it collected? Has sort of a North/South Carolina Pottery look to me. Cheers! -Joe

I bought it from the estate of a local South Carolina man but have no idea where he may have gotten it from or when he purchased it.
