Hi all! I picked up this sweet marble/alabaster(?) sculpture recently, hoping that it would be signed but unfortunately I can't see anything. I was wondering what age could it be and is it anything interesting or a more modern, generic decorative bust? It has a few chunks out of it. It is 9.5"H x 4.5"W Thanks for any info :)

Sweet! Something about her hairstyle speaks to early 20th C...to me, anyway. Such a placid, relaxed face on that child, so well captured...a keeper, I'm thinking.

@Elen Beattie, sorry I didn't have time to mark what "possibly" looked like a couple of marks on your lovely bust!! I circled and tried to enhance a bit what I "think" I saw inside the circles.....faint but worth checking out....IN the TOP image, the circle looked like maybe a line of tiny letters in that curl, and the oval looked like maybe two larger letters.....BOTTOM image I might have circled the same area as the oval in the top image....she's really quite sweet!!

Yeah...a signature would be icing onna cake...but only incidentally significant if she will be kept an' displayed, as she deserves. What a beautiful child!

Thanks for looking, but those are just areas of wear. It's also still a little dusty!

The base is marble but I think the bust is something else. Alabaster maybe. It's quite lovely and I can see why you want to keep her!
