This seated figure measures 8 cm tall (3"). There's a curious hole in the bottom 'plate' for lack of a better term.

Does anyone know how old this is? Is it, in fact, likely Japanese?

Any search terms you can recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

With only one screw hole, I wonder if it was meant to swivel. I'm imagining it as a swiveling lid over the top of a metal bowl. Just guessing.

    Interesting idea. Makes sense.

The bottom overall is not perfectly flat though-- it can rock back and forth some. Of course it could be bent from some original shape too.

The lady is wearing Japanese dress and hairstyle. Maybe she is Japanese made, but I don't know.
She is not a Geisha btw. Difficult to see what she is holding, but that must be relevant. Some kind of cutter/clipper in her left hand?

Did you happen to see this one yet? The pose is more or less the same, but the sculpture is bigger and much finer. It makes me wonder if someone was trying to make a cheap replica of the bronze lady at this auction house link.
EDIT: forgot to mention that the sculpture at the auction house is signed but no one made an effort to identify the artist.

Yes-- mine is neither well-executed nor in good condition.

But I'm still confident I'll be able to recover what I bought it for, and in the process my knowledge is ever increasing.

Thanks everybody for the comments / help!
