Small hand made black glass jar, woven covering

Silver rim, 3.5” tall. Is this familiar to anyone? New, native, vintage. Just found it interesting for about the cost of a per-Colombian Starbucks coffee.

 

I have not seen anything like it - just some thoughts: It looks like it might sit on the silver rim, rather than on the woven end. The weaving material looks experimental/repurposed. Does the "basketry" go underneath the silver rim (ie was the basketry in place and then the rim put on over it), or does it just butt up against the rim? If it butts up against the rim, it might have been added later as an art project.

 

Thank you for your reply. interesting, I didn't consider it sitting on the silver rim. Don't know why a glass bowl if it did. Also the glass bowl is not perfectly round and when I place it on the rim, the (now)top is not level. The weave goes up under the ring. at some points it looks more like a solid pattern on a material, but I can take the point of a toothpick and slide it under the weave at any point. I think it might be some type of synthetic as there is a stretching effect. I also thought a modern candle but no sign of wax at all. I might add that it is rather heavy for its size, thick glass.
