Small figurine, 115mm tall, is it Egyptian? Carved out of some type of stone material but not jade. Have no idea of its age, if indeed it is "old" & if it is Egyptian what does it signify. DSC_0358.JPG DSC_0360.JPG

Saw these like mad in Egypt. Little tourist pieces. Pottery I suspect.

Thanks for that, i know its hard to tell from a pic, its far from a perfect shape with straight lines, maybe the mould has seen its day but i never thought of that, all info i receive is helpful though.

now that i'm looking at it ..longer...it kinda reminds me of a soapstone that they used around here for tourist style native carvings....but not glazed like yours.

so...i'm up in the air about this now...

I can definitely see the similarity in the colour, items like your pic plus my partners figurine are shall we say scarce in Australia, the comments ive received on the figurine she is completely happy with and also constructive critisism is also beneficial but now of course she is delving further into internet searches mainly to get a background on Egyptian mythology but your carving has added further interest. Being from "the land downunder" as you would call it our influence in such items is mainly Asian & our indigenous peoples but items from the middle east, North Africa & indeed North American/Canadian indigenous items are a whole new area of interest.

Some of these are made from a kind of reconstituted granite.

Ha, Canberra day, we' re from the wild west (West Australia) we dont get involved with the east coast states, they think they are superior to West Aussies & theres always been this rivalry but thats life, its all great fun. So with my partner & myself inbetween our trash 'n' treasure hunting balmy days are spent walking the beach, out on the estuary in the boat crabbing, evenings watching the sun go down, out for meals & live shows, what more could you want in life.
