    I suspect a decorative painting?
Any idea of the location? Seems like the painting was on rectangular panel but was cut to fit the frame?
How about the siggy, V.D. maybe for Van Der(n) and then Tol., Bol, Rol. ...?
    Thanks

I like this one as well. I think it's a tourist picture but, for all that, may be a fantasy location.

How big is it? This is a painting that I think would benefit from being small.

Louis van der Pol perhaps. scenery looks like one of the French alpine lakes (Annecy etc.)

    Hi,
I really like the piece. I think Fid has the right painter and area.

I'm not familiar with Louis van der Pol except for looking online, but from that, I think it would be generous to say that this is atypical of his work. I don't think its the same guy.

The signature does read: 'v.d. Pol' but the artist is not 'Louis van der Pol (Dutch, 1896 - 1982)'. The style nor signature match. Louis's style was more Impressionistic compared to the OP's piece.

The better style comparison would be artist: 'Arend van de Pol (Dutch, 1886 - 1956)'. But I'm afraid Arend's hand nor signature seem to reflect what I'm seeing in the OP's painting.

The frame looks like the face panel door from a tall case clock.

The fact that a couple of painters have the van der Pol name suggests that there may be a couple more.

Is that the back of the painting you are showing, or a cardboard cover? (Looks like cardboard to me.)

Correct, there's a number of them.

Such as the piece below also being signed just: 'v. d. Pol' at bottom middle.

The back is the actual wooden board the painting was done on.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I like it, too... it does look like an Alpine scene (which I've only seen in photos and paintings...).

r those staples holding the painting to the frame ??
    That's odd....don't ya think ?
That , the wire & eye screws...make me think this is not very old.
