Small Chinese Carved Stone Gourd Vase

    The stone is kind of soft. Any idea of its type?

    Maybe alabaster. My guess is dyed.

    Thanks for the replies. Alabaster you say, like some sort of limestone?

    it's usually white but can be dyed several colors.

    Not limestone. Alabaster is a form of gypsum.

    According to wikipedia alabaster could be either gypsum or calcite.
