    Something funky there. I suspect a copy, perhaps contemporary to the frame which is new-ish. Would/could you post a photograph of the back?

    Germany was the original factory painting source. Probably not factory paintings the way there are now made in China. However, thousands of decorative paintings were churned out by contracted artists in the late 19th and early 20th century up until WWII. Often sold in furniture and department stores here in the US.
