I picked this up today at a local flea market. I've never seen anything like it before. It looks similar to works by Christooher Dresser. This piece has no markings, but it does have a nice old patina. Any thoughts as to age or maker is appreciated.

First... look what I was sent to when 4 pages into my search tonight>>>

Though I pretty much kept seeing the same pieces over and over, I learned a lot about him tonight and thank you for it! :)

I also learned that there was a recent sale of a 'missing' prototype for 18k pounds... (of what?) ;)
So you may have something special here but I've no clue to authenticity.

I would be surprised if this wasn't his but it does look a bit odd in places as to workmanship but that could be abuse over time or possibly being a prototype.

Seems to me that if it is real there would be a clamor to have it. I hope so for you! :)

    JMHO.
    I'd research a bit earlier, 1920s to 30s. Bauhaus and/or Neue Sachlichkeit

Fascinating! However, your critter has tarnish, not patina.

Once someone has produced a striking design, others will copy it with variations for decades.

Nice piece but I think newer retro-deco based on the bottom and lack of marks. Would think something such as this would be marked if old and by a designer. What is the handle made of?

I'm not sure about the handle material. The material feels softer than Bakelite and it has mold lines on both sides.

Looks like something you'd find in Habitat in the 1960s.

The mold lines would likely indicate a more modern plastic of some type.
