SilverPlate Box; Griffin? on Lid, Odd Shield Hallmark

It seems odd to me that this well-made box would have the cover logo so poorly finished. The cover is 5¾" by 4½"; the box is 5⅜" x 4" x 1" deep. There is faint engine-turning on the bottom, and on the underside of the cover.

The Griffin is a guess, as there's no detail remnant of the head...it seems to have been lightly impressed, then severely buffed.

The mark on the bottom is quite clear however.

It looks pretty contemporary...I would have posted in Silver, but don't know if plated work is acceptable there.

I'd like to know who made it, though, and where...if that can be told by the hallmark. Thanks for looking!

Front looks like a demi-lion rampant from a crest. Could be purposefully made to look worn for effect.
