I found this old slightly tarnished spoon in a thrift shop. I've searched the Net for weeks and can't match the pattern. It looks a lot like a Wallace Baroque but not exactly. I can't find any Hallmarks but I am sure it's silver. Can any one help me identify the pattern? Does any one Know about foreign Hallmark history? What will I do with it?

With no marks at all your spoon is unlikely to be silver or even silverplate.

What do you mean by foreign hallmark history? It would not surprise me if this spoon turned out to be stainless steel.

    Pretty spoon!
How/why are you sure it's silver? Has it been tested? If silver, what purity? (925, 800,etc?)

It's not magnetic and ice melts fast. Can you help me find a matching stainless steel cutlery pattern? I've been searching for a matching pattern since I brought it home.

England has been Hallmarking silver for 700 years, but as far as I know other European countries haven't. I have no idea what nationality the person who donated it was.

Wallace made a very popular sterling pattern called 'Grande Baroque', introduced in 1941 - your sugar shell is a Wallace silverplate pattern called 'Antique Baroque', introduced 20-25 years ago, it was not a full line pattern, just giftware sets of serving pieces. There is a different stainless pattern also called 'Antique Baroque', and there is a silverplate version of 'Grande Baroque' called 'Royal Baroque', introduced in 1981, and that pattern is also made in stainless...

Don't the various Wallace Baroque designs have a pierced element to them that isn't present in the posters photos?

I posted that bing.com/images site to suggest that it is a great site to use when searching for pictures of anything. I've been using it for so long.

This is a recent pattern, made in China as giftware, they could have just made an adjustment, but without a mark, could also be a knock-off, the design 'appropriated' (looks like they placed little flowers where the pierced areas would be). It is still the same pattern, with the elements of the pattern remaining the same, the pendant of roses extending past the beaded side flourishes and little flowers, along with the same decoration at the base of the stem, and the 'V' element below it on both front and back.

Comparison with an 'Antique Baroque' ladle (closest in size to OP's piece):

Thanks for finding this! I would have searched for years.
Can you link me to any pages. Now I have to work out why the little changes.
If I am ever going to sell anything on eBay, I need to know what I am selling.

Where did you get this photo?
