I have this 6pc set of what looks like "salt & pepper" shakers?
They're about 1-1/4" tall and 1" in diameter.
On the bottom it says sterling V.L.

Mid 20th century individual S&P shakers by Brooklyn manufacturer V. Lollo.

I have those. Great for large dinners when you can scatter them around the table so folks at either end don't have to say "pass the salt & pepper".

I have lots of them in silver, pewter, aluminum, and crystal, so many more with my late Mom's added in - she was a fabulous hostess, and her formal tables always had a pair at each place, one of my childhood duties was filling them before dinner and emptying after...

Not so sure I'd put salt in sterling silver.
I know there's not any value but it's nice.

No reason to avoid using silver for salt, you just don't want to leave salt in silver.

They're cute little things, that's why they remain in my house - as to value, for lightweight mid-20th century silver, they usually bring some decent prices on eBay...
