    My BIL sent this to us when he was stationed in Germany back in the early 1980's. He told us it was pewter & he had gotten it on a trip over to East Germany. A few months later when it began to turn black I knew something was up, but I have had no luck tracking down the marks.

    I finally thought about it again when my son had recently polished it up, so I thought I would run it by you guys to see if I can finally know for sure.

    Well, it doesn't LOOK pewter to me, but that doesn't mean I know what it IS!!!!

    As black as this set can get, there is absolutely no way it is pewter. I am just not sure if it is plate or sterling & if there if someone can ID the maker.

    If it is Lithuanian, it would be for 'midus', meade, their national drink.
    Using a German word like Schnapps may not go down well with potential buyers of Lithuanian origin.;)

    Thanks Johnny!! :kiss::kiss:

    This item would not be for sale in my lifetime. It now resides in a cabinet in my son's bedroom. I just wanted to be able to tell him what it was made of & possibly who made the set. :happy::happy:

    I am tending to agree that it is plated. I was busy most of yesterday working on photos & listings so I didn't have much time to investigate. I will post anything that I find out.

    Thanks again for the help. :kiss::kiss::kiss:
