I was sorting out some bits of scrap silver to sell and put this in the pile. I had tried and failed to open it and assumed it was a needle case and with a bit of damage.
OH was looking over my shoulder and decided he was going to open it. Well he succeeded eventually but drew blood in the process as we didn’t expect it to be a knife!.
It is hallmarked for Birmingham Francis Webb 1901.
What is the proper name for a knife like this?
Probably still scrap with the dents in the end but a nice little item and a good lesson to me to be more careful about checking things out.

A good jeweler could tap those little dents out if you wanted to keep it! NEAT!!!! GREAT for men cleaning their fingernails!!!

It’s cute isn’t it. I need to find a tame jeweller as our local ones obviously think they should only be working on the crown jewels:rolleyes:

What about just the blade by itself?

Can you tell I'm not good at metric?

So, with my meager math skills, I estimated that the closed knife is about 3.2 inches long. Does that seem about right? If that's the case, then the blade itself is a bit over 2 inches?

I was going to guess at a fruit knife, but I have no clue.

Then I'd say 5.5cm.....if I'm right....just the blade by itself, using @KSW's 2 centimeter measurements.....

I think it is a ‘accidentally stab yourself whilst opening knife’ as I've just done the same thing:rolleyes:

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I guess it is better to use a fake hand when holding it. :)

I'm late, but davey is spot on. A pocket fruit knife.

Remember in the movie "The Bodyguard" where Kevin Costner peels peaches with a slim small knife. He made it look so easy, I would cut off many digits if I tried that.
