Am I correct this is silverplate? It is weighted.

Also wasn't sure what to make of the etched mark on the bottom (see last photo). Just a scratch or did someone write something here.

    Thanks for taking a look.

Most of my "inherited" silver (both sterling and plated) had at least one, if not a half-dozen, scratched in marks. They were used for inventory and insurance purposes.

Yes, silver-plate. Whenever you see A1 you know it is plate:)

The lower case "g" in that shape shield with that style flag dates it c1920-c1930. According to the following page, the flag and shield with lower case Latin letters:

"Series of lowercase Latin alphabet letters
    (c. 1920 - c. 1930)

Flag of type C (last period).
Shield of type 5 (spoons and hollowware)."

Scroll a good 1/2 way down the page to see the above. Under that are examples marks of this time period. One like yours is the 1st one in the 2nd row. The types of flags and types of shields are near the top of the page, hardly 1/8th of the way down the page.

The A1 indicates the number of ounces of silver used in the plating process. A1 is the highest quality followed by A, B, C, with D the lowest quality.

Thank you Mansons, Cx, and Susan.

Very helpful, as usual. :) Answered all my questions, and I learned something, too.

    Cheers!
