Knowing my past experience with this kind of stuff ("QUADRUPLE" is what it says), should I bother to even try?
It really doesn't look like there is much, if any, plate left on it.

What chick? Did you remove a picture?

About the holder - don't bother to polish. In fact, doing so would make it look blotchy, I think. At least that has been my personal experience with things like this. ;)

There *should* be a chick on the backside of the top of the wishbone.
Now that I know it should be there, I can see where it broke off.
    C'est la vie! LOL

That one may have reached the state where a neat paint job is a good option.

A chick standing on a wishbone.............who ever thought that the depiction of an animal resting on it's own innards would be suitable on a dining table???????????

    Hi Messi,
Put a little catcus in it or even one of those "air plants". I would stuff it and use it as a pin cushion.

I am sick to death of cacti. I kind of like the pin cushion idea, but I don't really need any more dust catchers around.

I agree, don't bother polishing it. I suppose quad plate was supposed to imply better quality back in the day, but we have seen many examples where they end up dark like this and no amount of polishing is going to make it shine. It does end up blotchy and not pretty. I use an old quad creamer to hold pens and pencils on my desk that I did try to polish.

Your holder with the chick (another brand) is listed under the section for smoking articles dated 1886 in Rainwater's silverplate book, although they are described as toothpick or match safe holders. It is engraved with "Best Wishes" on the side of the cup part. Or is that supposed to be a money pouch?

I found one plant called "Baby toes" that looks promising.

I don't think it's small enough though. LOL

Sue, I have run across that problem many times over the years. That's why I was wondering.

The particular color of depleted "quadruple" plate lends itself to pink, lavendar, light blue and yellow flowers. Use the little fellow on Milady's desk or dressing table with a tiny clutch of apple blossom buds, or lavendar violas, or the tips of branches of forsythia and pussy*willow.

*How nice to know that eBay is not going to reprimand me!

    LOL @ af!

silver, I have no desk or dressing table that is not covered (stacked high!) in books!
And, I have CATS! Three cats!
Anything I put out has to be something that won't spill when tipped over. :D

Messi, I know what you mean. It is for a similar reason that I just found my bottle of Muguet du Bois in the plastic box I keep in the refrigerator to contain ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, vinegars, olive oil, hot sauce, etc.

Maybe I can start a new trend... Pork with pansies...lamb with lilies. veal with Violet Sec...
