Hi all, I got this small pitcher (creamer?) yesterday at a yard sale. It came with a card that says the monogram is HHP for Harriet Hall Packard. I may be able to contact the seller to try and find out more about this piece but before I try to do that I thought I would ask here about how old the piece looks.

I Googled Harriet Hall Packard and got these 2 hits:
    https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hall-42441
    https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/80680271/harriet-packard

My question is how old is this piece based on the shape and style of design. Could it be old enough to have belonged to the woman who is the subject of the above links? They say she died in 1850.

I have looked it over inside and out with a loupe and I can not find any marks.

I put measurements on one of the photos.

If I can find anything out from the seller I will report back :)

I don't see HHP, only HH.

I do think it's quite possible that the item was owned by Harriet, perhaps given as a wedding or important anniversary gift.

BTW it was made of coin silver not sterling. Before the mid1800s silver of the sterling standard was only available in Baltimore. There just was not a sufficient quantity of silver ore of the higher grade to supply the desire. Coin is generally only 0.900.

Beautiful. The style is early 19th century, so that fits datewise.

Lovely piece, always been a sucker for those elegant helmet-form jugs/pitchers - they started showing up around the 1780s and continued into the 19th century...
