Could this necklace be Silver or does it look like stainless steel? Finding no mark. TIA IMG_1327.JPG IMG_1328.JPG

Looks cast to me and while SS can be cast I'm not sure it would ever be done for this.
If it's soft it's probably silver.
With all that going on there may be a hidden or worn/poorly stamped mark.
I don't think it well made though so...

Roger67, instead of that being a "necklace" . . . is it instead a "pendant" to hang/be suspended from a necklace (of some sort)? Just curious.

I do not know the answer to your "silver or stainless steel" question, but I do find the piece interesting and attractive.;)

Agree on most likely not silver. Kinda doubt stainless, too. Do scan it very slowly and thoroughly with a magnifying glass as King suggested. Probably find at least a few odd marks.
How big is it? 3 inches? It looks "HEAVY"

its hard to judge if its unmarked silver without experience with silver and some testing. it doesn't look to have the age to be before a mark is needed (varies alot in europe), but private people are usually not allowed to mark silver on their own, so it could be a homemade piece that is unmarked.
as theoldguy suggested, try looking it over with a powerful magnifier. i once found a vesta case, and there were hallmarks so small on it that i thought they were just small dings in the metal, seriously they were as small as a needle mark. i was selling it on ebay and i had to photograth through my magnifying glass xD

Not stainless. The pieces of this were joined by soldering as anyone can tell if they look closely. So it has to be silver or a metal that can be plated or a metal or alloy that resembles silver. See how the identical 5-feather sections were soldered onto the large ring. Maker must have had a die or something to make many of those feather modules, maybe those were made by someone else as charms

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in:

Pisces - 2nd astrological sign. Astrological signs were very popular in the 1970s-80s, and continue to be now.

I vote silver plated pot metal or alpaca. Alpaca is an alloy made to look like silver and can tarnish like silver.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Clutteredcloset I looked up alpaca metal and it looks like that's it. I was looking for koi fish and it is a Pisces fish. You guys are amazing at what you do here. THANKS EVERYONE!!!

It is not alpaca. It is a tin alloy which melts at a much lower temperature than alpaca would allowing it to be cast into small forms like this.

Pewter. There's a great deal of it out there, both modern and old. I agree it isn't alpaca, it isn't shiny enough.
