Hello! I'm interested in the cake spatula I photographed, which period is it from? On one side is a monogram, and on the other is a text (which I can't read and translate) with the date 24.II.27? Apparently this is not the date of manufacture..?The base is silver-plated iron and the handle is solid silver! The marking is also not standard....lion= sterling(925), but it is also marked 875???I will grateful for any information!

Thanks, useful site, but the silver is not sterling, it is 875..usually this sample is for the Russian flatware, but this one is certainly not.

Not everything on the replacements.com site is sterling.

A lion mark doesn't always mean it is sterling, more often than not it doesn't.
Your lion looks like the Estonian lion, ca 1924-ca 1939, and it can go together with a .875 fineness mark because it signifies the country, not the fineness.

The lion only stands for silver if the item was made in England, which this was clearly not, given the lack of all the other elements of British marking which are not there.

Just because a plated item is magnetic does not mean that the base metal is iron, only that the base alloy includes something ferrous. I doubt that pure iron would accept silver plating well.

Of course you are correct. But your lions face the other way and don't look quite as "passant" as this one. ;)

A cake server with an engraved date makes me think wedding or anniversary memento, although not sure how the Roman III fits. Name looks like Malotsky?

I agree with previous comments that your handle is 875 silver, not sterling/925. Good info about the difference in lions!
Also, I'm surprised to hear that the handle is "solid" silver... they were usually hollow...?

Yes, the handle is indeed hollow, but the silver is a bit thicker :)

What would equate to "solid" silver... 925?

after googeling around a bit with the letters I could read, I now think it says:
Mälestuseks III kl. poolt 24/II 27
    with kl. being klass
    and google gives the translation
In memory of III class by 24-2-27

according to this site https://advist.eu/what-is-estonias-education-system/?lang=en the upper secondary education courses in Estonia last 3 years, so this could have been gifted and used to commemorate a graduation

It may not have been the same at the time. Our Dutch school system has changed at least twice since then.
    That is possible.
