Featured Silver & Glass Flask - maker & dater help please

Morning
I have a silver and glass flask, seems pretty old.

It belonged to my husband step-father who has sadly passed away, so nobody knows how he came about it.

It is hallmarked and there is a makers mark. I can see there is an anchor and a lion, so Birmingham and silver.

However the date letter is puzzling me! I looks like 1893, however the stamp shapes don’t match

also the makers mark is a little squashed. Does it look like WCG?

The year is 1893, it's a 't', you are correct - it isn't uncommon for the box shapes not to match though.

I can't find the makers mark in my book though, sorry.

oh I see. I was under the impression that the shape of the stamp had to match etc but since reading your comment I have found a resource advising that for that particular date, both round and square with corners off were both used, so that’s great.

yes it certainly does! I will definitely give it a clean. I’ve seen an almost identical one online in my research and it’s so lovely and shiny it’s inspired me!

 

You are going to busy with all these nice silver pieces.

 

Cartouches are often not the "correct" shape.
