On my way to lunch today, stopped off a local thrift shop and saw this in the window ..I assumed it was silver plated but I now think it is solid silver, hallmarked, but I can't figure out who or where it was made.
Style looks sort of French neoclassical, but the marks have me baffled.
I'm away from home ATM so pics are a bit on the quickie side, can probably get better shots when I get home.

I've tried sending the pic of the coffee pot, but size is too big from the phone right now ...will try and reduce the image and upload shortly.

    Thanks

That was in a thrift shop??? :thud:

Is that a snake or a lizard or something slithery like that represented by the spout?

It was totally black when I saw it ...once in a while, eh!

I think the spouts are sometimes called eagle head spouts?

    Lovely coffee pot.
Would these be considered Hanau marks?

They very well could be, however I just went through the list of the known Hanau makers marks and didn't really see any that matched up ...now I'm back home I'll upload some better shots of the marks.

Between the marks above and this new pic below, maybe someone can make something out?
The marks are struck most clearly and less worn on the footrim. The body has the marks too but these are practically polished away. The neck also has marks struck but again not so well-defined as the footrim set.

The marks being present on the separate parts would indicate silver, and it's a nicer piece than one that would bear Hanau pseudo-marks. Italian, 1810/12 - 1872, want to say the the badly rubbed first mark is some sort of Austro-Hungarian mark, import maybe, but not sure (neither eyes nor memory what they used to be) - next is the Padua/Padova town mark, then the 2nd standard (.800) mark, and last mark should be maker (AM?)...

The Veneto region, of which Padua is part, was Austro-Hungarian between 1797 and 1866, so that could be it.
That would mean the pot was made between 1810 and 1866, narrowing the period down slightly.

    My thoughts exactly.

    Nice find, blooey!

There are many pots of this general type, but yours is in a subclass that seems less common because of the pedestal base.

The absence of a thumb rest on the handle is also unusual.

It's nice find, and a lovely elegant Neoclassical piece (would've snatched it up in a flash), but can't say that I see anything particularly unusual in its form...

Thank you so much Cheryl; What a nice post to start the day!

After much studying with various loupes last night, I THINK the first mark on the footrim is a badly struck repeat of the last (AM?) mark. With the marking on the neck, (even though more rubbed) the pair of marks look identical.
Is it possible it could be struck with the (AM?) mark twice in each of the three positions?

I can't really make out that mark, but if it looks like they're the same mark to you, with piece in hand, then they may well be - there are typically just the three marks in no particular order, but don't believe it's out of the realm of possibility that the maker's mark would have been struck twice...
