    Hi dear Members,

I wanted to show you my latest find - this beautiful blackamoor brooch.

I have found one piece very similar to mine (just without tooth), sold as "blackamoor boar's tooth brooch" (link below), however it differs from majority of the blackamoor brooches, don't you think so?

I like how the rosette stars are used here and the face & hair lines are so detailed.

There are no any marks, but I'm pretty sure it's made in silver, and the pin is, most probably, brass.

I'm so glad I found it:cat: and would be happy to see what you think about it too:shame:

    It's an oldie, if that helps,more 1890 than 1950.

Yes, that’s what I thought might be the age, based on the c clasp and tube hinge, thank you for confirming my assumptions:)

Bev aka thelmasstuff Colored pencil artist extraordinaire ;)

Would that be subject matter for a brooch in 1890? I've never seen it before that early

There’s Georgian jewellery with that subject.

Maybe even Renaissance if memory serves.

This one looks like 'Zwarte Piet', with that collar and that hat! (please don't throw garbage at me now for mentioning him!:zombie: Zwarte Piet is getting unmentionable lately in my country:rolleyes:)

Dark Peter? Black Peter? I know he's not from Blue Peter. (with a nod to the UK contingent)

Overhere too. We now have Piet with different facial colours. Same costume though.

When I was little I was very surprised to see that Zwarte Piet had boobs. Our class went to a special Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) afternoon, and the only volunteers they could find in our village were a couple of middle aged ladies.:joyful:

Aj, as a child it surprised me Sinterklaas could change his outfit in a heartbeat, from one shop next to the other.
Must be a hard job being Zwarte Piet and having to wash all those clothes :hilarious:
'Roetpiet' or what is his name is still very hard for me to accept.
All changes are difficult to deal with.
Ah well, my own children all still had the chance to see Zwarte Piet in his original colors.
    I m grateful for that.

We always just had elves here in the USA, no Peter of any sort.
