I found this box and was thinking it was silverplate from India until I looked closer. It is impressed AS 800 on the inside so I've been looking at marks. It is a bit hard to search "AS" so I was hoping someone might recognize it. Forgive the bad photos.

This measures 5½" diameter, about 5½" to the top of the rose finial and weighs 305 g. The interior is gilt (?) washed. I polished it up a bit as it was pretty grubby.

I did find this auctions for a similar though smaller one from a few years ago, sold for $225 but a different mark and not much info.

    Thanks for help!

Well, you'll have to hit the yellow arrow yourself. hahaha

I think you've probably got it right:). The one on the yellow arrow page is similar but looks nicer than mine (but how much can you expect for $1.74?)

Good pictures but it looks as if there is a lot of old silver polish residue in the engraving. A soft toothbrush may help with that.

Sweet piece. Some of the Yogya silversmiths have been identified, but the majority remain unknown, as with 'AS'. The auction house referenced apparently needs a bit more expertise in silver, the mark shown wouldn't have been on silver in the 18th century, nor most of the 19th...

It didn't seem to me that the auction house knew much but it was the closest look-wise that I found. And it could use a bit more help in the clean up department and a soft brush will probably help the look. Thanks for the help, all the searches I was doing seem to treat "AS" as a word so I was going in circles! :wacky:(You never know what you're going to find at a thrift.)
