Hi all, I picked this up today - yes, there is a crack across the front but she looks interesting so I brought her home.
The back is mother of pearl but no crack - so 2 layers of MOP put together with only the top one damaged? I can see glimpses of a signature on the back but pretty much impossible to get a clear photo. What I think I see - Ata/ory Am/n plus several letters then underneath is 1852. Sprinkling powder on the signature does nothing.
She has a high ruffle collar, bits of her necklace showing.
Are these possible to repair or is this a lost cause?
    any info appreciated
    thanks for looking:)

Oohhh, beautiful! She is painted on ivory... She once had a protective glass. Sadly, the crack is beyond repair:(
The oxidized steel decorations on the brooch can be improved by polishing with 4 faces gel nails file.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

It is beautiful, even with the damage.

She is truly lovely. She was already a historic lady when she was painted, so a Historic Revival brooch, and 1852 is the right date for a brooch like this.

She could be sympathetically repaired by someone with the patience and tlc to do it (my fingers are itching). But she is beautiful as she is.

And, she has an obvious descendent, Roz Russell!

thanks peals and Fig, I think so too:)

'Historic Revival brooch', I like that, thanks AJ:) I wouldn't attempt to repair her, I'd make a real mess of things:)
