I have what I believe is an older etching. Was hoping someone could help me dechiper the signature and writing on this. The image area measures 5 1/4" by 7". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

I would second Weissmann as the signature. The other mark states "Original etching" in German I believe. I have a German etching with the same left hand mark but its been a while since I looked into it. At any rate that may help you narrow down a specific Weissmann.

comparing it to Radierung I don't see a double-s but rather a d. something like Widmann, Wiedmann, Widemann.

    M. Widmann. I have an etching of a monk by the same artist.

This is an old thread, in case no one noticed. BTW, it can only be read as Widmann if the artist put five humps in the "m".
