    The one shown in Bronwen`s link is not your coin, it shows a Mexico mintmark, these coins were struck in many mints in Spain, Mexico, Chile, Philippines, Colombia
    I believe yours is the Santiago mint in Chile.

    Coins are measured in mlilimetres and yours should be 38mm and weigh around 27.03 gramsl

    The best way I find is to google the coin, if there is a date put that up first, then any other information that is on it and 9 xs out of 10 it will match one up or similar then if you can't get any info. that's where these sites are great !!

    Oh Ya !
    Well I think this site beats the pants off Google....where Pinterest is King...and there's so much spurious information...that even if you find a similar photo....the description can be way off !

    & then there's the ponderous amount of naive folks who say..." I searched for a long time and couldn't find anything like it.....so it must be rare...Right !! "

    @Louiec
    Perhaps you could use your Googling skills to ID these two coins, I need country of origin, and the dates, :cool:

    Well I been doing this for many year
    What google does is take you to all other sites like e-bay which I have been doing for many years now, or it will take you to coin dealers and from there to sites like this, that's how I found this forum thru google !!

    It will also take you to sites that do appraisals witch I have used, I take a picture of my item and send them the pics and any other info I may have, I had paid as little as 10.00.

    This is what you could try, go to google type any of the letters that you can make out, then type the one dollar to which is clear, you can also use google images for this.

    Its not British Columbia at all and you never got the date, I know what both coins are and it wasn`t Google that told me, Google has only existed for 19 years.
    The reason I know is that I have studied coins for decades and its experience and reading books that gets the knowledge.
    In the below pictured books are listed just about every coin ever struck in the world since 1600 and banknotes since the 14th century.
    Each book is around 3 inches thick.
