    Hey all.

Have a set of 8 shieldback chairs. My main question on them is dating and wood.

My guess was mahogany and circa early 1900s. Mostly just going by what other shieldbacks are made from that I see and it looks mahogany to me.

Value wise I am probably going to sell them to someone who was interested for $400 for the set.

All of that seem right or am I missing anything?

    Thanks in advanced.

Thats a great price for a set of 1940s chairs. Jump on it with both feet.

Well, I am the seller. Do you mean I am giving him a good price, or that he is paying a premium?

I was thinking I was kind of low on them, but I got a good price when I bought them at auction.

Grab it and run before the buyer changes his mind. I agree - those are post WW2.

Here in Fla you'd be lucky to get $25 apiece. Very lucky.

I don't think it matters, to be honest, if you're selling them. ;)

Some kind of stained hardwood - here, it might be beech or elm.

I agree with the others on being post WWII to possibly into the 1960s. This shield back chair is in a stylized Hepplewhite style. I don't know woods so no help there. Agree with Owned... "I don't think it matters..."

The splat is mahogany veneer. The rest is stained to match. Probably birch. Agree with the others regarding age and value. Take the money and run before your buyer changes his/her mind.

Well, he may had thought they were antique so Ill make sure he knows that first and see what he says from there. Thanks all. Appreciate the info.

I only gave like 50-75 I think for the set at auction. so even at $25 ea I am still making something on them.
