Hi, I have been wondering about this tablespoon for years. It is made to look old but its very light weight and there is bleeding of copper. Was there ever a plated spoon made in the 1800's like this? Also, no marks anywhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry about the awful pics. I guess I should take pics on a white background. These pics are from 2009.
I found this design in Davis and Deibel, ascribed to Taunton Silver Plate Co, but only given the name "One" by D&D because they could not find an official name. No date given, but Rainwater says the Taunton firm was only in business from 1853 to 1859.
Here's picture of Taunton's "Sheaf of Wheat" pattern from sterlingflatwarefashions http://www.sterlingflatwarefashions.com/images/SheafWheat.jpg
When you called it ugly, Shiloh, I was expecting something really hideous. I kind of like the wheat design... Or did you mean because the plating was coming off, it's ugly?
