Settee - to renovate?

    Hi everyone,

I'm after advice again please.... Some years back I inherited this settee - as you can see, it is in dire need of renovation - the bottom is about to fall out and the covers are starting to tear (helped along by the dog's claws I think!). My grandmother re-covered it many years ago, but at the back you can still see the plush (but now faded) material that I assume was the original covering. I was thinking it was maybe 1920s - is that about right, or earlier?

I will be downsizing next year and need to work out what to keep. In your opinions, would it be worthwhile getting this piece renovated or should I offer to someone else to take it on? I don't care about making money from it, but I would like to think it was going to be brought back to life and loved again! I can't just dump it - it's been around all my life and I'm way too sentimental!

    All help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Jane.

I'd say leave to someone else to do unless planning to hang onto it. Looks arts and crafts to me, and a nice design (though I'm not a fan of the current upholstery). It could look sharp redone, but the cost I expect would outweigh the benefit in terms of resale.

(Unless someone can put a designer name to it.)

Maybe a decade or so earlier than 1920. Agree with the A&C influence and probably not American. Little to no value in this condition. Worth fixing up to keep, otherwise, pass it along to someone else to do.

Thank you both for your replies - so it may be older than I was thinking. I guess it's likely to be from London, UK, as that's where my family were living in the 1890s-1930s. I think I probably need to check out the cost of renovating it and then make a decision if its worth it. Thank you again.
