My mother-in-law has gifted is with what she calls a Chipendale loveseat. What style/period is this from? And how afraid should I be having it in my house with my boys and animals? The leg style doesn't look Chipendale to me.

I suspect it is from the so called Sheraton revival period around 1900, upholstered with an appropriate Regency stripe.

It has been re-upholstered. I believe 15 years ago when our oldest son spilled milk on it, at that time it was red velvet-like fabric. Where would I look to be able to tell age? There aren't drawers to look for joinings. When I looked underneath, I see one of the support pieces for the seat is a veneer. The rest of the wood is definitely solid.

I figured if I started trying to learn about antiques on my own pieces, I would be able to develop a better eye. I thank you for your help!
