    Hi,
This is 8 1/2"L, I think the mark says Grimm. No other marks so I don't know if this is silver or not. I've been looking for a Grimm silver maker, found a posting on a silver forum but this mark is not the same - maybe it doesn't say Grimm?
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks for looking.

I agree that American coin is a significant possibility. And, although I don't have another exact name to give you, I don't think it says Grimm. Still pondering.

Thanks johnny and bakers:) so maybe coin silver.
lol, I'm wondering if my eyes are wonky - looking at the mark it looks like Grimm but looking at the photo of the mark it sure doesn't.

I think I see an "our" at the end?

The mark is just rubbed enough and my eyesight just bad enough that I can't quite make it out, but it's unlikely to be American coin - by form, more likely from Germany or thereabouts, probably early to mid 19th century, or even a touch later, fineness likely to be around .750...

Here's a somewhat similar mark from the 'silberpunze' site for 19th century smith Hans Claus Grimm in Bad-Oldesloe:

That tooling on the back puts it squarely in Central to Eastern Europe. I found some Latvian ones with a lot of it on them once; it was all hand done. They had pretty good hallmarking on them as well. German is a good possibility, since anything I've ever seen from further East has been marked to a fare-thee-well.
