Hi, I purchased what I believe to be a Satsuma wall pocket (or perhaps a bird feeder) in a junk shop recently.
It's signed but the signature is partly worn so I'm not sure what it says. Who am I kidding - even complete I wouldn't know! Although at least I'd be able to look it up on Gotheberg. Hopefully someone will have seen something like this before - I can't see anything (oriental) like it online at all.
    Thanks in advance. 209732111_1193182557795060_6858264926411380881_n.jpg 211225488_1450149755383672_8977638631468667889_n.jpg 213679021_554871375868627_6833138686263377352_n.jpg 215292663_3035445696692918_5697118097992330946_n.jpg 218416445_356442096091974_3672193214649109720_n.jpg 211210192_332858708245984_5602635780107731171_n.jpg

I have no idea what it is but would expect a wall pocket to be flat at the back. It’s lovely, very unusual, I’m intrigued and hope someone knows what it is!

No clue.Very intriguing. Can it be a vessel that was modified to fit a specific purpose. That small square slot/hole looks crudely done. Maybe for mounting. Almost certain the very knowledgeable people on this forum will know.

Unusual form, it does look like it was meant to hang and I can't think of a better purpose than for flowers or incense. It is in the Awata style, could be anywhere from 1890-1920's I guess. The mark is for Kinkozan, they made high quality Satsuma as well as lower end items like this.

Thanks so much, I didn’t recognise the signature, I do have other Kinkosan pieces so will have to have another look. Cheers Jacqui

This is a Kinkozan mark on an Awata piece I have, the form is scrawled and very different from the properly scripted formal work on their high quality pieces.

The shape reminds me of a Cacao pod.

Ah, that would make sense as the painting on my other pieces is of much higher quality. This piece is quite "rustic" by comparison. thank you
