Hi - my name is Helen and I have just joined this forum. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify this vase. I think it is a Satsuma vase but am not sure. It has an impressed mark on the bottom. The painting on it is exceedingly fine and of very good quality. It is of water lilies and a wee bird and a frog. There is some crazing to the surface of the vase but it is overall in lovely condition.

    Thanks for any help .

Hi and welcome, yes, this is a Satsuma vase, made in Awata near Kyoto, the impressed mark reads "Taizan", he was a well known potter. Date is Meiji period IMO...

If you mean the crackles in the glaze by "crazing", they are intentional .
