Satsuma Vase - Copy of Earlier Period?

While researching, I found an original Satsuma Vase from the Meiji Period that had a form of this rope tassel design on the sides but in gold. I think my 9 inch vase might be a simplified copy of this design and the crackle in the glaze is just antiquing. The paint work before the gold was applied appears to be well done, but the gold was hastily globbed on.

I don't know what the vase is telling me. The red mark on the rim seems to be either dripped paint or painted over and the black mark is indecipherable to me. Does any one have some thoughts that they would like to share?

I dunno. Seems I've seen wares of this quality from the first third of the 20th c. So much was exported to the West then.

I like that. I avoid all the stuff that looks modern and cheap. I wasn't sure about this piece. I appreciate your thoughts on this. This is the Meiji period one I think it is supposed to look like.

Looks to be early 20th century, and it's in the Kyoto style. I don't think there is any significance in the marks to the base.

Perfect. Thanks so much for answering. It will become part of my collection then! I was wondering about those marks. You have taught me what to look for and I was disappointed, when I turned it over to find there wasn't a Satsuma mark.

It is very common for them not to be marked from this period, from what I see at least half don't have any mark, so it's nothing to worry about.

This material is always a brain stumper to me. The very new cheap stuff from China is easy to spot, but I appreciate your help very much when it comes to anything else. I won't overlook unmarked pieces in the future.
