My wife and I picked this up recently at auction (Paid a paltry sum for it) so not too fussed if things dont pan out too well....
I have done a bit of reading and I now know just enough to get me into trouble... Always the way.
I would like to believe that we have a rare and quite early unmarked (Perhaps sold into the local market) Satsuma Vase. It is over 16 inches high and 8 inches wide. Its in pretty good condition for it's age (Although not quite sure how old it is).

I am thinking that due to the decoration (Lack of people, animals and landscape) that it may date to Before the onset of exports to the western world. This would give it a date range of between early to mid Meiji (SP) period...... OR perhaps the tail end of the Tokugawa period.... Thoughts please!
I posted a few pics but if you need more just let me know. There is also a shot of the only other one like it (For shape that is) thanks for looking.

I'm guessing the time period to be 1880s - 1890. After 1891 imports into the US had to have the country of origin. If it was made to stay in Japan, then it wouldn't have needed to be marked, and could conceivably have been made a little later.

It's described as enamel painted, for the raised areas. It is not Moriage, which would have been clay slip. Not enamel.

Wait for someone else to verify that it is Satsuma. Might be something else.

Neither the shape nor the decoration is traditional Satsuma. So IMHO, it's an imitation of popular wares of the late 19th/early 20th c. The good factor here is the size which is a whopper, so I think it could be worth more than the average piece just because of that.
