This is one of the pieces I got on the table lot I bought at last week's auction. She is 8" to the top & is marked on the bottom.

@Any Jewelry she reminded me of some of the pieces you & others have posted on your Bali Art Deco thread. So what do you think? When do you think she was carved?

Hi Peggy. Yes, she is the Balinese beauty with the mirror, a popular girl since the 1930s. Lovely face, and good Art Deco style. She looks 1940s to me, which is still very much Art Deco in Balinese terms.
Balinese art was (still is) exported, so she could have been bought in nearby Sarawak.

@Any Jewelry - Thank you so much!!:kiss::kiss:

I thought she was reading something. :shame::rolleyes::p:facepalm::facepalm: :hilarious:

I could see the word Malaysia before the auction but I didn't notice the Sarawak until I got her home under a bright light.

What type of wood are these figures usually carved from? As you can see in the photos she has a dark area on her one arm. Hopefully that will not matter to the buyers.

    :joyful:
Different types, whatever the carver can lay his hands on.;) This could be teak. Neighbouring East Java has the best teakwood in the world, and a lot of it.
It looks like a natural part of the wood. If so, it wouldn't matter to people who know Indonesian carvings, and they are the ones most likely to buy her.:)
