I was browsing in an antique shop in Salamanca, NY. when I found this beautiful gold ring. The tag said the ring was 10k solid gold. When I purchased the ring I saw on the inside it was stamped “10k GTR” and wanted to know what GTR meant so I did some research. After some digging I think I discovered that the GTR stamp belongs to Samuel Aaron/J.M. Fox Inc. I want to know now if anyone knows anything more about this manufacturer/ the ring itself. I want to know if it is actually vintage or not? Also there’s a tiny stamp to the top right of the “R” in GTR that I can’t make out what it is if anyone knows anything. THANK YOU
Here is some information about the GTR trademark for Samuel Aaron. It was first registered in 1974. According to this site it was still active as of 2014 and could still be active today. The Samuel Aaron company was purchased by the Richline Group. https://trademarks.justia.com/724/51/gtr-72451949.html I didn't find any images of marks for the J.M. Fox company that you mentioned. However, in your picture it looks like the letter X at the end of the first part of the mark... not K. With either a zero or letter O before that. So maybe related to the Fox company that you found? Not sure. By the way, thanks for the clear photos. And welcome to Antiquers, @JillianRoseAnn !
Info here from a couple days ago ...... https://www.antiquers.com/threads/h...lovers-rubies-and-diamonds.40521/#post-845250
Here's another recent thread on a ring by the same maker: https://www.antiquers.com/threads/here-is-a-ring-for-jewelry-lovers-rubies-and-diamonds.40521/ The 'GTR' trademark was registered in 1974 (filed in '73), but first use was noted as 1950 - that said, no idea when the affiliation between Samuel Aaron and J.M. Fox began, but believe it was fairly recent since a cursory search only turned up advertising with both names in this century (tradeshow publications was all I turned up - so would guess a wholesaler), believe they went out of business not too long ago. The mark on the right, to my eye, sort of resembles a fox-head - at any rate, suspect your pretty ring is fairly recent... ~Cheryl
we have also had several discussions about the term ' vintage ' and it's meaning related to the age of items . The findings indicate that the word vintage, although wisely used has little meaning unless an actual date accompanies the term.......like ' Vintage 1999 ' . The term is best known for use in dating wine , where a date is always present.
Anyone know if GTR has anything to do with the KCI MARKING ? or does anyone know anything on it? I saw a ring with both marks however I have a few with KCI and can't find anything on it.
