I purchased this painting a couple of weeks ago at a thrift store. I wanted to post it because the back story of the artist is so interesting. In addition there are current efforts to bring his story to peoples attention. I really like the 1950's imagery, it looks like the date is 1953. I am making the assumption that it is by Samson Schames, based on other examples I have looked at. It is a rather large painting, the viewable image is 18" by 25". I think it is a combination of watercolor and gouache on watercolor paper. It appears to have been reframed sometime in the 1980's, though I think the frame itself is period to the painting. I would recommend taking some time to watch the videos and zoom talks about this artist. Thanks for looking, I hope you find it as interesting as I do.

That is interesting. Agree re (early) 1980s reframing. That dusty pink mat is a giveaway. This frame on another of his works looks period. Very similar.
