Recently picked up this piece I have identified as being Salviati. My initial reaction was that this is probably from the 50s or so. I have seen attributions that this could be as early as 1890 and a couple stating 1920s. Any idea of true age?

It’s very nice, Brad. Great find! I must just be finding the same ones you mentioned, I hope you can pin down the date.

It looks newish to me; the design looks more 1980s than 1950s, but a glassie may know for sure.

Agree. Here's a 1930s bowl by Salviati. Difference in quality notable.

I'm in the camp for newer too.

Just a casual observation....the dolphins on the old Salviati pieces always look like they have thinner lips/snouts (do dolphins have lips?). The bottom jaw of the newer pieces also looks shorter to me.

    Pretty piece!

It is now packed away. Base shows wear and has a rough pontil mark. I know the estate this came from and woman said it was her Husband's mother's piece. I realize she could have bought it right before she passed but got the feeling it had been in the family a long while. Of course 1980 was 38 years ago so that could be their long while. I don't really care one way or the other but would be nice to know so that I don't misrepresent it when selling.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I hate to be a "Negative Nellie", but the red one (from 1st Dibs) looks (TO ME!) like it's been repaired......either the 'bowl' or the 'pedestal' looks crooked and the dolphins look a wee bit 'off kilter' on the base!!!:rolleyes: JMHO.....happy to be wrong!!!
