Featured Salt Cellars

Please help, any info would be appreciated. Heavily tarnished salt cellars with spoons. I’m not sure if they are even silver, they didn’t clean easily with very good with a cleaner. Only mark I can find is the small square symbol that’s hard to see. It looks like a head or crown duty stamp. I could try to take a better picture.

They're French .950 silver - the tiny diamond shape stamps are the maker's marks.

Hi and Welcome @Monica Becker! I'm assuming you saw the 3 rows of small lettering under the rim of the 'cellar'? I removed any color from the image to help it stand out a bit.....although I'm unable to read any of it.....just pick out a letter or two!!

The color of your cellars made me think of a necklace that my mother had made.... part of it was gold, but the hangar that was attached was made of Oxidized Silver.... I don't know if that's a possibility or not for your pieces though!! If someone were to try to polish the oxidized silver, COULD it even be polished off????? Just a thought that could that be what yours are.......................? And after Googling it, I found..............hope that helps!!

can't remember what VERMEIL is in english
(I think there is a technical word for gold lined )

 

gold washed, gold guilt, gold plated,
depends the process.....

It is the same, vermeil.

Vermeil is specifically gold bonded with silver, nowadays through electrolysis - electroplating.

Looks like we've lost Monica Becker

 

The marks are the 1st standard (.950) Minerva-head in an octagonal cartouche, can even see the '1' at top right - an idea of dating might be possible with ID of maker's marks, would guess late 19th-early 20th century...

Hi nope I’m still here… I enlarged the stamp too and can see the image of a head more clearly now. Tilt it , the profile of the face is to the right. I tried searching to find who it was but had no luck.

 

It is the Minerva mark, for .950 silver as Cheryl said. So the head is of the Goddess Minerva.
