I have had this for a while and was researching, is this a Salish basket of some kind? I found one on etsy that is just like it but it is a little bigger than mine. This one is 6inch across top and 4inch tall with a long strap. For the diamond on front and back it is a blue color. The one that sold on etsy says it dates to 1930?? Do you think this is that old? TIA for all your help. The handle and top is weaved into basket but also has like fishing string too. And also what would this be used for? This is not Salish, or Canadian First Nations (or Native American) of any kind; it is from the same country as the Etsy basket, you are right about that. Like ebay, etsy listings are notorious for misidentification of baskets and other supposedly native items.
There are others who know more about baskets of the world than I do, and will be able to name the country of origin. I'm thinking Indonesia. Purpose: sale to tourists and importers, though it may be used as a purse.

Thanks all fakes I was thinking the same thing. It just doesn't look like 1930. So someone making and saying Salish. Thanks

Yes, that's what the real ones look like. Nice basket; Thompson River?
A search for "Salish indian woven basket purse" would indicate that a company called 1stdibs.com has sold a bunch of the Indonesian baskets as Salish, getting around $250 apiece for them.
    But that is not news......
