Illustrating the Cascade Gardens, fairly well tarnished but I was wondering if it is likely to appeal to collectors of Worlds Fair (was it a Worlds Fair?) memorabilia? Can anyone decipher the mark? 1-P1040217.JPG

    Hi Bear,
It says Apollo Silver Company. I have a small cup with the same hallmark.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes, the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis is also known as a World's Fair. At least now it is. I don't know what they called it at the time. Nice tankard!

Phew. ;) That brought back some memories of a Certain Person on the old boards.

Is there a worthwhile market for this with collectors?

I would think so, AF, although shipping from over there may be prohibitive. I'm very surprised to see it in your neck of the woods.

The old man was keen on Americana. I have some lighter and cheaper odds and ends.

I'm in CA. I have people who occasionally ask for World's Fair items. Most are looking for the 1939 World's Fair.

BTW - There were 2 fairs in 1939. The New York World's Fair and the San Francisco Golden Gate International Exposition, which they now call a world's fair.

I've sold world's fair/exposition items from the late 1800s and early 1900s. They were all paper items, though, like postcards, Victorian trade cards, and an official map and guide.
