Went to a sale and found this lone earring, no match. The meatl was tarnished and cleaned up like sterling, a magnat does not stick to it. The stone may be jade, it does show some wear. The silver is not glued or attacked, it was bent around the stone when made. No marks anywhere. Was hoping someone can put a time frame on this.

It is lovely and will look great as a pendant on a chain as well. Or on a pearl necklace.
I agree, jade, nephrite jade, and it looks like sterling. I have no idea of the age, sorry.

It might be a recent piece. The silver looks like it might be from a spoon handle. And the stone ring is a common item in bead stores. Nice, interesting combination.

    Thanks Any

2many and Silver, the stone has a lot of wear to it. The point on the end of the silver is too pointy (harpoon) to have been a utensil

if the stone has a lot of wear, it won't be jade. Jade is very hard indeed and will not "wear" in normal use! Real jade can't even be scratched with a steel point.

I have been looking at this alot...maybe wear wasn't the right word. Not as polished and smoothed out maybe is what I want to say. Will maybe take it to a jeweler.

Not all jade is highly polished. I was wondering about the wear, because it doesn't show in the photos. So, just not glossy, which is not unusual for nephrite.

Just looking at it again, I wondered if it could be turquoise, because I have artisan jewellery using turquoise ones. I have also seen turquoise that is quite green with brown matrix. I was going to ask you about the finish because it looks more matte than I would expect of jade.

If it is turquoise, you will scratch it. Proceed with caution.

I took this to a local jeweler. It is jade and not turquoise.

Great! Thanks for letting us know.
Are you going to wear or sell it as a pendant?

The little loop on top fell off. I took it to a different jeweler to see if he could put a new one on. According to him if he puts any heat on the silver it will break the jade. Someone had put a lead solder on with the loop which is a soft solder....which would explain why there was only 1 of these. Someone made this into an earring. So now I think this is back to being original.
