Uncle Leonard sent several (much smaller) of these in the late '40s from Japan. This one is not marked, but the similarity is strong enough for me to attribute this one to Japan as well.
The hull is 6" long, with a 2 3/4" beam an' ~7/8" draft. Displacement might be ~3 oz with water inna boiler, an' a candle aboard. Steel hull, aluminum superstructure; all markings are applied decals.
Operation is accomplished by filling the boiler with water via one of the tailpipes, then placing a pan (missing) with a wick floating in olive oil under the boiler. When the wick is lit, the heat generated by the burning oil boils the wee bit of water in the boiler, steam is produced which exits the pipes, an' forward motion is achieved!
A few of you may be of sufficient age to have seen or possessed such a toy inna '40s or '50s. Do any of you recall what these were called? I certainly do not, an' I'd like to list it on the Bay, calling it by its proper name.
All comments your are very welcome, an' as always thanks for lookin'!

I've seen the term "pop-pop boat" or "putt-putt boat."
I've got one, I think unmarked, which I think is 50s-60s Japan.

The legend lives on, from the Chippewa on down, of the big lake they call Gitchee Gumee...Does any one know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
    Thanks to Gordon Lightfoot...
