I am attempting to take apart this rocker to do repairs on the arm handle. The picture is of the connection on the underside of the seat that’s holding the arm rest post. Before I get too far in does anyone have an idea of what this connection is. Is it a wood insert of some sort. It doesn’t feel like metal.

Could you show a picture of the rocker and arm.

Are you sure is isn't the bottom of a spindle - so wood.

The connection in my previous photo is under the spindle I’m pointing at.

I think it’s just some sort of wooden plug possibly with the screw underneath it going into the spindle. I don’t think it’s metal but it’s pretty hard and I wanted to get some input Before I started trying to remove it

Are there plugs covering any other 'spindles'?? Is the arm broken?? Possible the arm has been repaired before???

Komakwa’s right - lathed wood spindle. No wedge like there would be with an antique Windsor (which is good since those are really hard to take out). But there may be a hidden long nail that secures it to the seat if it isn’t just held with glue. May be able to punch it out from the bottom with a hammer and large flat round punch. But may work better to loosen arm from the seat with a wood or rubber mallet.

Should just be the butt end of the spindle you are pointing to. They are usually just glued in to a socket hole.
