I'm trying to get an ID on this medal. No luck so far with google & eBay search. Does anyone recognize it? The 3rd picture shows a maker mark that was hidden under the ribbon. Thanks! ... Dave

It's a woman's name... Liza Chaikina. Her full first name was Elizaveta.

I found a few brief things to read about her in English. First one is taken from the Great Soviet Encyclopedia. Read the warning note at the top.

This footnote says she was murdered by the Nazis in 1941 and was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

The dates on the medal are her dates of birth and death. I can't tell to whom your medal would have been awarded.

That's a big help. At first I thought it was references to the two world wars. I'm searching with her name now.

Thank you for the compliment, Gila. In this case, I have a B.A. in Russian and have kept up a few skills.

Great job Fig, thank you! Still searching here for a comparable, nothing found. I can find her on Russian stamps, but no medal. I've been checking on the collectrussian.com web site mentioned in a previous thread, plus eBay and google searches with variations of her name. We'll probably just list it on eBay with an aggressive price and see what happens. Unusual to not find anything -- maybe a rare piece? ... Dave

We have the medal scheduled to go up tonight on eBay, item 371465668771 (starting around 6 pm pacific time). It will be interesting to see how the market reacts, given the lack of comparable. Thanks again for the help! ... Dave
