Apologies for a rather duplicate post but I forgot to add these photos in my previous thread. Anyway, could you tell me roughly when the following photos were taken? (Apologies for the reflections) photo (2).JPG photo2.JPG

    They're Edwardian.

Thank you Debora. I'm 99% sure that the baby in one of the photos was born in 1919. Could it still be a photograph from that year? I believe so given the other examples I've seen on the web. I guess we're only talking 9 years after the Edwardian period, like you said!

The photograph with baby isn't a 1919 photograph. Here's how men were dressing then.

Thanks Debora but I'm going to have to disagree with you slightly. I appreciate your comments though. I have my great-grandparents' wedding photo from 1931 and the father is dressed in the same way as the man above. Also here's a photo of Einstein in 1921:

Ah, Albert Einstein. Now there's a man noted for his sartorial taste. For contrast, here's Rudolph Valentino in 1921.

Ah, you may have answered my question there, the man in the photo (my great-great grandfather) was a tailor! But you're right on the most part the fashion was exactly that you've shown. Anyway, here's two more photos from 1919 to support my argument! haha

They show a mixture of styles but the 1920s style (like you showed) is definitely dominant!

These pics are all of old men.......the guy with the baby is a young man.....

you can't tell me that young men dressed the same way old men do.....in any generation...!

Not everyone could afford the newest fashion.
It may have been his only suit for several years.

    The baby photo is precious!!!

As someone else pointed out, not everyone could afford to update their wardrobe, or they just stuck to older fashions purely out of taste. My own dress sense these days might raise a few problems for future social historians, haha! (And no, I'm not OLD... just outdated!)

This is annoying, I posted my replies as a guest (without being logged in!) so looks like I've lost those.... interestingly the man in the photo with the baby would have been 48 years old when she was born - making him in the same generation as the prime minister Lloyd George and Einstein! My great-great grandfather was 8 years older than Einstein! So very feasible it could have been taken in 1919 in my opinion. Also given that he was a tailor, he always looked smartly dressed in all of the photos we have of him. Although by the 1920s it seems that he finally shifted to current trend! Folder collars - similar to what we see today.

Yes you're right it is the same man in the other photo. That photo dates to c1910. He looks a bit younger in that photo. He as much lighter/whiter hair in the photo of him and his daughter (hard to see in the attached photos unfortunately)

Got a bit of an update for you guys... we have the family's family bible and it states that the family had 3 daughters in total. The first two were born in 1900 and 1901. The other daughter to be born was in 1919 (the photo in this post). It's certain that photo doesn't back to 1900/1901 so that has helped confirm things a little more for me..

Sorry, me here again but just remembered I have these two photo of the baby too! Unfortunately nothing written on the back of them - nothing to give any hints. Although the one of the baby sitting outside is stuck onto a photo album! IMG_6018.jpg

Such a sweet baby :). The second photo looks like a postcard... is there anything on the back? Postcards can sometimes be dated quite precisely from the printer, or the stamp box.

I'm guessing around 1890's or so.

Ah yes you're quite right but unfortunately there's no printer/photographer name or stampbox on the back - just blank. The only text on the back is POSTCARD on the top, 'CORRESPONDENCE' AND 'ADDRESS ONLY'. Does that still give some clues?
