    Hi there,

Please look at the following image:

    Width:46cm

    (Approximately)

I'm quite novice, when it comes to identifying antiquities, nor do i have any idea where to start.

Perhaps someone would help me with any information about this incredible piece.

Somewhat at a loss as to what it is made of, but if i would venture a guess it may be cast iron?

There are makers marks along the places where the 'screws?' are, but, i can't make them out entirely.

Any one able to provide any pointers?

    Kind Regards,
    Tx

I'm going to guess that something once went through those holes in the centers, maybe for a lamp? It would help to see the underside; it won't do me much good, but those who know antiques will want to see the marks and screws etc. If your piece has phillips head screws, for example, it was made most likely after 1945.

Currently the piece is in my store, so unfortunately I cannot provide additional pictures at the moment. However, if it will help, I will take a batch of shots. Do you have any guidelines or points of interest that I should focus on?

No Worries, others will be along. The mark would be of the most help. Anyway, I called it cast iron three tiered stand when searching.

It looks like it has been painted gold.
It might be brass. Brass can be as heavy as iron.
I think Victorian in time frame.
I have a brass and marble plant stand that has nuts and bolts halfway down the leg.

I keep thinking it's a plant stand and belongs in a conservatory setting with white wicker chairs.

    It's very attractive.

    And they have appropriate nuts.
Seems to have numbers on OP.

    Thank you,

It's entirely possible that it could be brass, as you say. I'm entirely new to all this.

However, it hasn't been painted gold, but it's possible that the light that I photographed the piece in is responsible for the gleam.

Also, I applied some brasso to it. I was a little heavy handed with it and i didn't remove it properly... so it did discolour it a little bit. Whoops.

And i'm on board with the conservatory vision. great idea.

    that all said:

thank you so much for the contribution.

Erm, perhaps a little unclear from the photo (let's just say i've not learned how to photograph stock optimally) but the holes you mention are present on all three tiers. You could prod a stick through, if you wanted.

As for why, I have absolutely no idea! :)

Granted, but perhaps the original joinings withered and someone could have replaced them in attempt to stabilise the lot, no? I have no way to tell.

With all the assistance from everyone, I stumbled upon the following:

    https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/antique-ornate-musterschutz-heavy-1794042070

    The description is quite incredible.

I'm quite hopeful that this piece hails from the Musterschutz Company. That would be something.

Strangely enough, it is well outside the scope of inventory that i curate into my shop. Acquired it, firstly because i have never seen something quite like it and secondly - intuitively had a sense that there's something really special about it.

This is the same one from the EBay ad. You will have to verify yours by the marks, when you can access it.
