Reproduction Alert - Egg Scales

Hello folks,

Was in an antique mall today and saw a booth with many "vintage" egg scales (6 or 7 different types, no duplicates). I like country primitives and have a few egg scales in my collection. I was looking over the dealers scales since they were all in pristine condition but didn't look quite right on the paint and decals. The metal appeared to be a little rough and granular under the paint. As I was looking at one I saw a "Made in India" sticker on the bottom of one, perhaps the dealer forgot to remove it.

This seller claims to specialize in high quality reproductions.

I have to admit I'm kind of surprised that something common and affordable is being reproduced on such a large scale. The seller in the antique mall had their scales priced at $29 each.

Your thoughts?

 

Last summer at Walmart I saw a whole display of such faketiques. All of the items were things you normally see real ones of go for less than $50. All farmhouse type stuff.

 

So, is a REAL VINTAGE egg scale worth only about $50.00 ??

 

It never surprises me to learn what is being reproduced/faked.
One that I found hard to believe though:
vintage canning jars, Mason and others.
